A Mod named Irish Jack

Irish Jack participated in a Question and Answer session for the Who fan forum I co-run called The Grid a couple of years ago. From that interaction came email exchanges and even a phone conversation. I don't know everything there is to know about Irish Jack but I know a little about him. A year ago I neglected to send him emails and didn't even attempt to keep in touch. Entirely my fault. Friends of mine went to the April 2006 Who Convention and Jack was there. He passed along a message for me to get back in touch with him. I didn't, okay I admit it I'm an idiot. Anyway, long story short he emailed me a few weeks back and this time I emailed him back. I heard back from him yesterday. His email prompted me to post this blog today. I have to say he is one of the nicest and interesting people I've been lucky enough to cross paths with. He has such a caring and warm side to him and he tells the best stories.

I can say without hesitation that he is a friend and I'm truly grateful for his friendship. The past few weeks I've lost faith in some people and his email has brought me back into the light. So, I count my positive blessings and leave the others behind.

Tea and Theatre

I ordered the Who Encore CD/DVD for the London, Ontario show and received it in the mail today. As soon as I arrived home I placed it in the DVD player and watched the entire concert. I relived the concert, the meaning behind the concert and my feelings for the friend who stood next to me to celebrate this night with me. The last song of the concert - Tea and Theatre is an emotional song and when I heard it over again I couldn't help feeling a little verklempt. I had this strong urge to post the lyrics so I have to listen to my inner voice. Here they are, enjoy:

Will you have some tea
After theatre with me?

We did it all - didn't we?
Jumped every wall - instinctively
Unravelled codes - ingeniously
Wired all the roads - so seemlessly

We made it work
But one of us failed
That makes it so sad
A great dream derailed

One of us gone
One of us mad
One of us, me
All of us sad

All of us sad - lean on my shoulder now
The story is done - 's getting colder now
A thousand songs - still smoulder now
We played them as one - we're older now

All of us sad
All of us free
Before we walk from the stage
Two of us
Will you have some tea?
Will you have some tea
At the theatre with me?

Six Feet Under

Does anyone else here watch Six Feet Under? If you do, did you catch or have you seen (we're a season behind here) this episode?

This show is so unique and I'm sorry to see the end of it. This particular episode really upset me. I don't think it's because of the death of one of the main characters but rather how each one was coping and coming to terms with his death. The little girl on the show pulled at my heart strings. I couldn't get to sleep and had to stay awake just to cry to get it all out of my system. I've never had that happen before and I'm analyzing why this episode had such an impact on me.

A poem was read at his final resting place. He had a green funeral just as my friend, David (i.e. they both were not embalmed). I can honestly say I know the smell of decaying human flesh and it's a smell I've never forgotten or ever will. I did a bit of research to find this poem online as I didn't catch all the lines. I managed to locate it and here it is now:

Our death is our wedding with eternity.
What is the secret? "God is One."
The sunlight splits when entering the windows of the house.
This multiplicity exists in the cluster of grapes;
It is not in the juice made from the grapes.
For he who is living in the Light of God,
The death of the carnal soul is a blessing.
Regarding him, say neither bad nor good,
For he is gone beyond the good and the bad.
Fix your eyes on God and do not talk about what is invisible,
So that he may place another look in your eyes.
It is in the vision of the physical eyes
That no invisible or secret thing exists.
But when the eye is turned toward the Light of God
What thing could remain hidden under such a Light?
Although all lights emanate from the Divine Light
Don't call all these lights "the Light of God";
It is the eternal light which is the Light of God,
The ephemeral light is an attribute of the body and the flesh.

...Oh God who gives the grace of vision!
The bird of vision is flying towards You with the wings of desire.

You knew it was coming...

Two out of our four or five mayoral candidates have reached the YouTube generation!

Reverend Michael Baldasaro

Fred Eisenberger

Emmett and I have already voted, why you ask? Our thoughts are: you never know if something will happen to keep you from voting on the actual voting day. The right to vote is too important and in some countries people do not have this right.

I have my own opinions about the current mayor, I didn't vote for him in the last municipal election and I didn't in this election. Quite frankly the choices for mayor leave one to do the "cover your eyes and go eenie, meenie, miny, MOE". Hey Moe, Larry and Curly! Who did I eventually vote for? All I'll say is "Amen". ;-)
